lalala~

I need to..... make a doctor's appointment. What are you supposed to say on the phone? When was the last time I went to the doctor? 2 or 3 years ago I think.. But I've been having terrible migraines again. I've reached the point where eating or sleeping doesn't do anything, I have to take medication for it to go away, but I'm worried that over time that'll stop working. like,... what am I supposed to do then? scary..

hm. what else. what else. I've started watching TV again cus my dad stopped being a cheap ass and now we have the subscriptions without ads. I watched Smiling Friends first since Leo told me I should watch it. I think that was a good starting point since I haven't watched anything at all in so long. I liked it, it's funny. Mister Boss is my favorite character, I think he's like Adam West on Family Guy, so that's why he's my favorite, but I like all the characters. Then I watched Moral Orel, cus my friend Elsa on twitter had talked about it a lot last year and I thought it sounded interesting. I liked that show a lot too, and I told Leo he should watch it. That one there's only 3 seasons, and the last season is to tie everything up. I think it was depressing, but I still liked it, and I think it all did still end well. Then I had been getting posts on twitter from a guy that was watching through Batman, the animated series from the 90s, and each clip I saw had my full attention and I really wanted to watch it. So I'm watching that now. I really like it! I haven't actually watched any Batman related media anything before this, so all I've based my understanding and opinions of the characters on was how other people describe him and make him out to be. So watching this, I did not realize that the base of his character is that he's a detective. Like, yes he fights crime, but that's secondary. I seriously didn't know that! Why has that been overlooked in every description 😭😭!!!?

There's a lot I wanna say about my thoughts on the series.... I wasn't intending for this post to be about Batman... oh well. But I'm realizing, all of the characters seem to get mischaracterized when I think back on every conversation I've had about the characters with people I'd see everyday. Like, Bruce Wayne as a character gets heavily mischaracterized, he's a kind and likeable guy, and he's always looking out for people, and always hosting or participating in charity events and fundraisers. How I've heard him described is that he's a millionaire playboy. Like,... is everyone I know that's watched Batman stupid? And then as Batman I've only ever heard that he's a crime fighting vigilante, but... that's barely the case. Maybe it's just the series I'm watching, but.. I think if you watched it, it's very easy to understand his character well.

One thing I really really like about the series is how fleshed out it feels. The whole universe is cool. Like, it's easy to believe Gotham is a city in the northeast around Jersey. I like that background characters have the regional accents, and the fact that they've got the mob bosses having to deal with the police and stuff, and just how everyone in the city is connected in some way, from talking about residents in Crime Alley to people working at each corporation and who heads each corporation. It's not 'just' the main cast like I feel like the marvel movies are. And it kinda sucks that those are the main movies anyone's watched in theaters for the last 15 years, cus I'm realizing now watching the DC stuff, those movies are so flat! How the hell is anyone watching and liking that garbage, holy shit!

And then back to characterization.. there's a huge contrast between Batman and his villains. I feel like the same goes for SpiderMan, but reversed.. (?) do you get what I mean.. Like,... the overall tone of Batman himself is serious, and I feel like his villains are a true contrast. They're all dramatic in a theatrical kind of way. The set of Gotham is more dark, and his villains are like characters in a play. They're kinda campy. Then there's also the fact that Batman is really strong; a lot of his main villains are all, for lack of a better description, physically weak. Like, how they go about their crimes isn't dependant on physical strength. Now obviously that isn't the case for all of them, and even the 'smaller' villains are still strong, like Poison Ivy and the Joker, but I hope you get what I mean. A lot of what they do is more psychological and just relying on everything other than physical strength to win a 'battle'. Which is why I thought of SpiderMan being the opposite. His villains are more serious and technical like Batman, and he's the more campy one. Oh yeah, characterization.. oops. I feel like his villains aren't described right either. They all need to be 'characters', the Joker needs to be wearing a 3 piece pinstripe suit and pointed shoes! I feel like a lot of their appeal goes into how they contrast Batman. They're vibrant, campy, and well-rounded and it makes them off-putting in their setting. I feel like,.... most everyone I know thinks that because the setting of Gotham is dark and serious, that everything should be dark and serious, but, then I think it doesn't actually match! The contrast is important! His villains shouldn't be serious!

Another thing is.. with how comic book movies are super big, and everyone knows about the Joker, and all the serious interpretations of his character and whatever, I think not having any of his other villains is a wasted opportunity! Because honestly, they all translate pretty well into a modern setting! And I think a large part of that is because they're more psychological as opposed to just being 'strong'. I think they work really well too because, quite a few of them, their motive isn't necessarily wrong, but they're obviously deranged, so how they go about trying to 'fix' things to be right, is so much worse and completely insane. Lots of good characters.. Everyone watch Batman!!

Like, I stayed up until 5am watching it last night, and I watched 3 really good episodes. One was The Forgotten, where homeless people in Gotham were going missing, Bruce volunteers at a soup kitchen and was talking to the guy that heads it, he says the police weren't overly concerned cus, well. they're homeless. But Bruce isn't that guy, so he went undercover to find these people and was able to bring them back home. The second episode was about the 'mad hatter', that episode was creepy as fuck because dudes like that are real and exist. He was infatuated with Alice, the receptionist at his job, her boyfriend broke up with her after an argument, this guy was obviously delighted and said he'd take her out on the town to cheer her up. So they go and she has a nice time, when she gets home, her boyfriend is there and they make up, he proposes to her. The creep thinks he's going to be about to win her heart so when he comes into work the next day and sees she's engaged, he uses his little mind control cards, because having her as a doll is better than not having her at all. Save her Batman!! he did. That episode was creepy. And the last one that I really liked was the Gray Ghost! Adam West voiced that character and I thought that was really cool 😸, but there was a series of bombings happening that were a recreation of the plot of the Gray Ghost TV show, so Bruce has to hunt down the actor to find out what happened next. That one was really really cool cus it was written that, the Gray Ghost character was who inspired him to become Batman and his lair was a replica of the one in the show. really good episode. I'm gonna watch more tonight.

Once I'm done watching Batman, I wanna watch the Tobey Maguire SpiderMan movies. what else, what else.. I need to get my nails done again. I don't really want to. I don't want to do much of anything. I still haven't gone through my pictures or anything either. I lack the will of the warrior. such is life I suppose
